We maintain a sustainable approach to botanical dye extraction, where artists and craftspeople refer to these molecules as colorants. Each colorant requires specific procedures for extraction and transformation into dyes, inks, or pigments, depending on solubility, desired hue, and intended use. Plants are carefully processed to extract colorants using methods that minimize waste and maximize efficiency. Residues from this process are composted back into our garden, enhancing soil health and supporting local biodiversity. Our dyeing techniques prioritize minimizing the number of baths used, significantly reducing water consumption. By reusing dye baths until fully depleted, we ensure that every drop contributes to producing high-quality botanical colours while responsibly addressing environmental water scarcity.
